Streszczenie: Latem 1937 r. Emanuel, młody człowiek w wieku dwudziestu paru lat, zostaje skierowany do sanatorium nad Morzem Czarnym, gdzie leczy się gruźlicę kości. Leczenie polega na bolesnych nakłuciach kręgosłupa, które przykuwają go do łóżka rehabilitacyjnego. Powoli jednak Emanuel przyzwyczaja się do szpitalnych niewygód, tym bardziej że odkrywa, iż w sanatorium można żyć pełnią życia. Zaprzyjaźnia się z nowymi ludźmi, angażuje się w rozmowy, głównie polityczne. Przeżywa nawet romantyczną przygodę, a tymczasem na zewnątrz, w rumuńskim społeczeństwie do głosu dochodzą skrajnie prawicowe i nacjonalistyczne tendencje.

Short description: During the summer of 1937, Emanuel, a young man in his early 20ies, is committed to a sanatorium on the Black Sea coast for treatment of his bone tuberculosis. The treatment consists of painful spine punctures that confine him to a plaster on a stretcher-bed.
Little by little, as Emanuel gets accustomed to the sadness of his new life, he discovers that inside the sanatorium there is still a life to be lived to the fullest. He makes friends and engages in conversations, political for the most part. He even has a romantic relationship, while outside Romania doesn’t have much to offer him, turning more and more into an extreme right-wing society.

Radu Jude (1977) ukończył Wydział Filmowy Uniwersytetu Mediów w 2003 r. Wyreżyserował film krótkometrażowy The Tube with a Hat (2006), który zdobył ponad 50 nagród międzynarodowych m.in. w Sundance i Los Angeles, oraz ponad 150 filmów reklamowych. Jego pierwszy film fabularny Najszczęśliwsza dziewczyna na świecie (2009) zdobył nagrodę NHK/Filmmaker w Sundance i grant Huberta Balsa oraz nagrodę CICAE na Berlinale-Forum 2009. Światowa premiera jego trzeciego filmu fabularnego Aferim! (2015 r.) odbyła się podczas 65. Festiwalu Berlinale, gdzie otrzymał Srebrnego Niedźwiedzia dla najlepszego reżysera.

Radu Jude (1977) graduated the filmmaking Department of Media University in 2003.
He directed the short film The Tube with a Hat (2006) (winner of more than 50 internationalPrizes i.a. in Sundance and Los Angeles) and more than 150 advertising commercials.
His debut feature film, The Happiest Girl in the World (2009), winner of NHK/Filmmaker Award in Sundance and Hubert Bals grant, was awarded with the CICAE prize in Berlinale-Forum 2009. World premiered in the 65th Berlinale Competition, Radu Jude’s third feature, Aferim! (2015) was awarded with the Silver Bear for Best Director in Berlinale.
