Streszczenie:.Podróż w czasie do Wiednia sprzed 100 lat, od końca panowania monarchii Habsburgów do Anschlussu Austrii przez nazistowskie Niemcy. W tym czasie Wiedeń był kulturalną stolicą Europy i domem dla sporej społeczności żydowskiej. Film rekonstruuje życie duchowe metropolii poprzez biografie żydowskich intelektualistów, żyjących i pracujących w Wiedniu w tamtym okresie, m.in. Stefana Zweiga, Arthura Schnitzlera i Zygmunta Freuda.

Short description: A journey back in time to Vienna 100 years ago at the end of the Habsburg monarchy through to the Austrian Anschluss with Nazi Germany. At the time, Vienna was Europe’s cultural capital and home to a sizeable Jewish community. The film reconstructs the spiritual metropolis through the biographies of Jewish intellectuals living and working there during the period: Stefan Zweig, Arthur Schnitzler, Sigmund Freud and others.

Robert Bober urodził się w 1931 w Berlinie. W 1933 jego rodzina uciekła z nazistowskich Niemiec i osiedliła się we Francji. Po ukończeniu szkoły z powodzeniem pracował jako krawiec, garncarz, a potem – nauczyciel, co doprowadziło go do pracy z Françoisem Truffautem przy filmie 400 batów. Został asystentem Truffauta przy filmach Strzelajcie do pianisty oraz Jules i Jim. Wyreżyserował ok. 120 dokumentów, m.in. Ellis Island Tales (wspólnie z Georgesem Perekiem), który zdobył nagrodę na Festiwalu Florenckim w 1980 roku, oraz En remontant la rue Vilin (Srebrna FIPA w 1992). W 1991 otrzymał Grand Prix organizacji Société Civile des Auteurs Multimédia (SCAM) za całokształt twórczości.

Director: Robert Bober
Robert Bober was born on 17 November 1931 in Berlin. In 1933 his family fled the Nazis and settled in France. He left school after his school certificate, and became successively a tailor, a potter then a teacher, which led him to work with François Truffaut on the film The 400 Blows. He became François Truffaut’s assistant on Shoot the Pianist and Jules and Jim. Director of 120 documentary films including Ellis Island Tales, made with Georges Perec, which won the Prize of the Festival of Florence in 1980, and En remontant la rue Vilin (Silver FIPA in 1992). In 1991 he received the Grand Prix de la Société Civile des Auteurs Multimédia (SCAM) for his life’s work.
