Streszczenie:

Mało kto przewidziałby, że Žanis Lipke zostanie bohaterem. Był całkowicie zwyczajnym łotewskim pracownikiem fizycznym, z bagażem codziennych zmartwień i problemów. Jednak gdy tylko niemiecki reżim okupacyjny rozpoczął krwawe represje wobec Żydów w Rydze, Žanis podjął trudną, ale humanitarną decyzję o ich ratowaniu. Decyzję, która mogła okazać się śmiertelna nie tylko dla niego, ale także dla jego żony i syna.

Short description:

Hardly anyone would have predicted that Žanis Lipke would become a hero. He was a completely ordinary Latvian blue-collar worker who had his share of worry and problems. Yet as soon as the German occupation regime began its bloody repressions against Riga’s Jews, he made the hardly simple but humane decision that could prove lethal not only to himself but also to his wife and son.

Wyreżyserował kilka nagradzanych na całym świecie filmów dokumentalnych, a także fabuły różnych gatunków, które brały udział w wielu ważnych festiwalach międzynarodowych. Do jego najnowszych filmów należą docu-fiction Escaping Riga (2014) i jego pierwszy film fabularny Exiled (2016), który opowiada tragiczną historię o losach zapomnianego szpitala psychiatrycznego w czasie I Wojny Światowej.

Dāvis Sīmanis is one of the most renowned Latvian filmmaker and theorist. He has directed several internationally awarded documentary films as well as cross-genre features that have participated in number of major international festivals. His recent films include docu-fiction Escaping Riga (2014) and his first fiction feature Exiled (2016), which tells a tragic story about the fate of a remote mental institution in the times of World War I.
