Streszczenie: Film przedstawia historię grupy młodych Żydów, którzy w 1970 roku w Leningradzie próbowali uciec z ZSRR, porywając samolot. Wśród nich był pilot, który był w stanie przewieźć 16 osób przez granicę sowiecką do Szwecji, a później – do Izraela. Niedoszli uciekinierzy w ostatniej chwili zostali zatrzymani przez KGB i poddani przerażającemu procesowi pokazowemu na oczach całego świata. Po 45 latach reżyserka Anat Zalmanson-Kuznetsov odkryła niesamowitą historię swoich rodziców, liderów grupy, uznanych za bohaterów przez Zachód, a – za terrorystów  przez Rosję (również dzisiaj). Materiały archiwalne, rekonstrukcje i wywiady z oficerami KGB dopełniają opowieści o ludziach, którzy próbowali zyskać wolność i w ten sposób zachwiali żelazną kurtyną.

Short description: Leningrad, 1970. A group of young Soviet Jews plots to hijack an empty plane and escape the USSR. The group’s pilot would take over the controls and fly the 16 runaways into the sky, over the Soviet border, on to Sweden, bound for Israel. Seized by the KGB just a few steps from boarding, they were subjected to a chilling show trial, while the whole world watched. 45 years later, filmmaker Anat Zalmanson-Kuznetsov reveals the compelling story of her parents, leaders of the group, “heroes” in the West but “terrorists” in Russia, even today. Archives, reenactments and interviews with KGB officers enhance this inspiring story of people who imagined freedom and cracked the Iron Curtain.

Reżyser: Anat urodziła się w Izraelu jako córka Sylvii Zalmanson i Edwarda Kuznetsova, liderów grupy Dymshits–Kuznetsov, która przygotowywała w 1970 roku w Leningradzie porwanie samolotu. Studiowała reżyserię w London Film School. Opowiedzenie historii rodziców za pomocą medium filmowego jest jej ambicją od lat. W tej chwili pracuje nad scenariuszem filmu opartego na dziennikach więziennych ojca.

Director: Anat was born in Israel to Sylva Zalmanson and Edward Kuznetsov, leaders of the Dymshits–Kuznetsov hijacking affair. She studied filmmaking at the London Film School.  It’s been
a long-standing ambition for her to tell the story of her parents in the medium of film and Anat is now developing a script for a feature film based on her father’s book “Prison Diaries”.
