Short description: On a road trip like no other ultra-Orthodox Chassidic Rabbis hit the Aussie bush looking for ‘lost Jews’. Leaving the comfort of Melbourne Jewish life, two Rabbis and their families are heading into the heart of Australia on a journey filled with surprising and emotional encounters with Aussie outback characters and laced with Jewish wit, music and culture. The Rabbis are members of Chabad, an ultra-Orthodox sect of Chassidic Jews. CHABAD of RARA (Remote and Regional Australia) is an organisation devoted to travelling the country to search for and minister to Jews. The RARA mission is to reconnect Jews with Judaism and to ensure ‘No Jew gets left behind’. Like all Jews, the Chabad sect believe the Messiah is yet to come to earth. Unique to the Chabad, they believe the more Jewish rituals and good deeds they can get people to perform, the faster the Messiah will come. So, for them, their work locating and reigniting Jewish identity and pride is their life mission and a mission from God.

Director: Award winning filmmaker Danny Ben-Moshe is one of Australia’s leading documentarians. He has an undergraduate degree in law and politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London and PhD in Jewish Studies from the University of Melbourne.He has directed over 10 documentaries, with a penchant for Jewish and quirky tales. His feature length films include: My Mother’s Lost Children(2017), an epic family saga told across five continents and six decades; Shalom Bollywood: The Untold Story of Indian Cinemahad its world premiere at the Mumbai Film Festival in 2017; and Carnaby Street Undressed, featured rock legends such as Roger Daltry from The Who. Danny won Australia’s top documentary prize, the Walkley Award for his 2014 film Code of Silence, which lifted the lid on sex abuse in the ultra-Orthodox Jewish community. Danny has made two films for SBS’s Untold Australia series including Outback Rabbis(2018) and Strictly Jewish(2016). Danny is currently making a Virtual Reality film series of Holocaust survivors.
